Hamburg Airport was able to complete the renovation of runway 15/33 on schedule last week. The runway is now back online and is being used extensively.

“The construction work on runway 15/33 (Norderstedt/Alsterdorf) went according to plan – like the work on the other runway in June – so that we were able to complete the runway closure on time,” says Martin Borstelmann, project manager for civil engineering Hamburg Airport. “The surface of our runways will therefore continue to be fit and safe for flight operations in the coming years.”

In the coming year, annual maintenance and repair work on the runways will be necessary as usual. This work includes, among other things, removing rubber abrasion at the landing points, flushing the drain lines, renewing the markings and replacing and maintaining the so-called runway lighting (electrical system). As soon as the dates for 2024 have been set, Hamburg Airport will announce the periods on its website and in the neighborhood newsletter, among other places. In the interests of the residents, Hamburg Airport will, as always, ensure that the runway closures take place outside of holiday periods when planning.
