Laxenburg: Ferry in new splendor

In Laxenburg, Lower Austria, a few kilometers from Vienna, there is one of the largest castle complexes in Austria. The associated Laxenburg Palace Park, in which Wien Holding also has a stake, is one of the most important garden monuments in Austria and Europe. Picturesque landscapes, wide meadows, mighty groups of trees and the huge castle pond create a unique composition.

The ferry to Franzensburg is serviced every five to seven years. Today, on March 21, 2024, after the successful overhaul, it was raised back into the castle pond in front of Franzensburg.

“With the launch of the ferry after returning from the workshop, we are ringing in a new season with numerous highlights in the Laxenburg Castle Park, from the guest performance of Circus Picard to the Laxenburg Cultural Summer and the Klangwelle. The preservation of this beautiful facility is important to us, which is why we are investing in structural measures and in desludging the castle pond,” said Wien Holding managing director Mag. Oliver Stribl, who was on site to see for himself the laborious process of lifting the ferry into the castle pond.
