Due to an ongoing audit, Star Alliance member United Airlines has been temporarily banned from operating second international routes. This measure was ordered by the US Civil Aviation Authority (FAA).

This means that United Airlines will not be able to offer the planned non-stop connection between New York (Newark) and Faro in the 2024 summer flight schedule. The route was canceled due to the ban. Existing Tokyo-Narita routes are also not allowed to be extended to Cebu as part of the Fifth Freedom. The affected air carrier has announced that the launch date has been postponed to October 27, 2024. Of course, this can only be implemented if the FAA gives the green light by then.
