The operating company of Stuttgart Airport was founded on November 15, 1924 as Luftverkehr Württemberg AG. At the beginning the airfield was still in Böblingen. Over a century, the current location in Echterdingen developed into the most important traffic hub in Baden-Württemberg.

Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH sees itself as well positioned for the future. The airport will continue to play a crucial role in the region's economic and tourism development, increasingly serving as a transport hub for the entire region. In addition, with its infrastructure it will be an ideal testing platform for innovative technologies for the Baden-Württemberg aerospace cluster and far beyond, thus continuing to secure its pioneering role in technology and sustainability.

“Since its early beginnings, flying has developed enormously, both technically and economically. This will continue in the future, with new drives and other revolutionary innovations,” says Managing Director Ulrich Heppe. “Flying will always be part of human mobility: our international society, economy and research thrive on personal encounters with other people and cultures. This is more important today than ever before.”
