Stuttgart Airport has announced that the seventh photovoltaic system is currently under construction on the site. This is scheduled to be put into operation in spring 2024.

The 912 modules with an area of around 2.300 m² are expected to generate around 530.000 kWh of electricity annually. Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH (FSG) is investing over 900.000 euros in the open space facility at the southwest end of the site, next to the state police helicopter squadron.

In order to quickly implement the large-scale facility within the airport fence, the airport company, the Esslingen district and the municipalities of Leinfelden-Echterdingen and Filderstadt have worked closely together in a joint task force. Marion Leuze-Mohr, First State Official at the Esslingen District Office: "The planned solar park at Stuttgart Airport makes a major contribution to the goal of climate neutrality. Through more intensive cooperation between the actors involved, synergies can be achieved and procedures accelerated. The Esslingen District Office is happy to support the state airport in the concrete implementation of the planned solar park. A first pilot plant has already been approved by the city of Leinfelden-Echterdingen."
