Barig heavily criticizes the GDL and Verdi strikes

The Barig industry association strongly criticizes the fact that the strikes that the Verdi union is taking at Frankfurt and Hamburg airports and among Lufthansa ground staff as well as the work stoppages by train drivers that the GDL is calling for are taking place during the ITB tourism trade fair.

“The whole world wants to show its best side at the ITB International Tourism Exchange taking place in Berlin, but the chaos caused by the unions has prevented Germany from doing so this year. The repeated strike actions not only damage the economy, but also mean an immense loss of image in terms of reliability and connectivity. The consequences are dramatic - for the many thousands of travelers during the ITB, for international goods traffic and, last but not least, for the airlines. This significantly damages Germany's hospitality and cosmopolitanism towards foreign countries. Instead of actively connecting people from all over the world, mobility is being unnecessarily disrupted. The unions must return to the negotiating table for constructive dialogue in order to find sustainable solutions without repeatedly and completely disproportionately burdening passengers and supply chains,” said Michael Hoppe, Chairman and Executive Director of Barig.
