Hamburg Airport has founded a subsidiary that will deal with the construction and operation of photovoltaic systems. This bears the name Sustainable Energy Solutions GmbH & Co. KG.

Initially around 70 million euros will be invested. The aim is for Airport City to be fully and independently supplied with electricity. As the owner and operator of the park, SES is expected to make the energy generated there from wind power available to the airport from 2027/2028. The two managing directors of the new subsidiary are already in other positions at Hamburg Airport: David Liebert, Head of Real Estate Management, and Johannes Scharnberg, Head of Communications, Politics and Environment, have been the dual leaders of SES since June 2023.
