The Lower Austrian holiday campaign is intended to support caregiving relatives and encourage them to take a break from this challenging activity. “Caregiving relatives are of great importance to the entire care sector. Because the compatriots want to be cared for mainly in their own four walls - that would not be possible without the relatives.

The support of the caring relatives through the holiday campaign is particularly important to us as the state of Lower Austria and to me as the responsible member of the government," says Teschl-Hofmeister, Social Councilor. In the first half of 2023, 231 applications have been approved so far. In the same period of the previous year, there were 134.

In recognition of those relatives who look after people and enable them to live at home, caring relatives receive 175 euros for a holiday spent in Austria. This amount is increased to 225 euros if the stay took place in Lower Austria. If the actually incurred and verified overnight stay costs of the caregiver are below these amounts, a subsidy in the amount of the actually verified costs will be granted. Funding is available to people who look after people in need of care (at least care level 3) as the main caregiver. The campaign can be used once per person per year. "Caring for relatives is not only very physically demanding, but also represents a major psychological challenge. That's why I'm pleased that we were again able to approve 231 applications for relatives this year, who can take a well-deserved break and regain their energy reserves refuel,” says Teschl-Hofmeister.
