The wide range of leisure activities in the Mostviertel are very popular with guests and locals. In order to further promote this positive development, the regional tourism offers will be enriched with new attractions in the leader project "Adventure space development Pielachtal and Melker Alpenvorland".

The offer around the Pielachtal and the Melker Alpenvorland is diverse and ranges from the narrow-gauge festival to the Mariazellerbahn, the Dirndlkirtag and Pielachtaler Advent to the hiking possibilities and the many cycling and mountain bike trails in the Melker Alpenvorland. In order to make even more guests aware of the beauty and diversity of the region, modern marketing measures and means of communication are now being developed and local tourist offers expanded. The overarching project goal is to sustainably increase the quality of regional tourism offers through close cooperation between the organizations and the communities and partner companies. “With these measures, we want to show opportunities for both locals and businesses and thus make a contribution to tourism value creation. This should go hand in hand with increasing the number of overnight stays and also boosting day tourism,” explains Anton Gonaus, chairman of the Leader region Mostviertel Mitte.

Fortunately, the number of overnight stays in the Pielachtal is already on the right track: in 2022, over 59.000 overnight stays were recorded. This exceeded the values from 2019. This boom is partly due to many new operations in the region. In order to continue this trend while maintaining quality, various attractions and tourist offers for the region are implemented as project focal points: "For example, the Pielachtaler Dirndlkirtag and the Dirndltaler Erlebniswochen are increasingly being planned and implemented together. In addition, we organize events related to the dirndl blossom, a narrow-gauge festival and the atmospheric Advent in the Dirndl Valley,” says Andreas Purt, Managing Director of Mostviertel Tourismus GmbH. However, guests should also be invited to the Pielachtal in a modern, sustainable and car-free way - for example with special group tours or the hop-on hop-off offer on the "Dirndltaler" (the Pielachtal circular hiking trail). You can discover the hiking trail with the Mariazellerbahn in stages and then easily return to the starting point or to the hotel. A separate information system for visitors called "staymate" is also being implemented.

The Leader region Mostviertel-Mitte selected the project for funding in accordance with its local development strategy. It is funded with support from the state and the European Union. The state of Lower Austria decided to support it from funds from the EU program Leader and the ecoplus regional funding on the initiative of the governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner.
