On the evening of January 21, 2024, the airline Swiss had to make a safety landing at Dresden Airport. This resulted in the fire department being deployed as a precautionary measure.

The crew of the Airbus A220 reported an air emergency over the radio because they noticed an odor of fresh paint and steam in the cockpit. It was expressly not smoke. For safety reasons, this was reported to air traffic control.

The medium-haul jet landed successfully at the Saxon airport. The fire brigade was made available as a precautionary measure, but its services were then not required. Swiss now wants to investigate what caused the strange smell. The carrier does not want to or cannot provide further details as the findings of the technical inspection must be carefully evaluated.
