As part of a public bidding process, Flughafen Zürich AG has been awarded the contract to operate Natal Airport. Most recently, this had about 2,3 million passengers per year.

The newly acquired Natal Airport optimally complements the existing portfolio of Flughafen Zürich AG in Brazil - consisting of the majority holdings in Florianópolis, Vitória and Macaé - and enables the use of synergies, according to Flughafen Zürich AG.

It is currently assumed that the corresponding contract will be signed before the end of this year. The duration of the concession is 30 years. Operational responsibility is expected to be taken over in 2024. No expansion investments are required during the concession period and only minor replacement investments are pending. The airport currently has a capacity of approximately 6.5 million passengers per year. With the conclusion of the concession agreement, a one-time concession fee of BRL 320 million (approx. CHF 58 million) will be paid. In addition, an annual turnover tax is due from the 5th calendar year after the conclusion of the contract.
