Lufthansa wants to have cut 29.000 jobs by the end of the year. Many jobs are also to be cut abroad. Austrian Airlines claims, however, that no employers have been dismissed in this connection so far. Some, whose fixed-term contracts were no longer renewed, see it a little differently.

A spokeswoman for Austrian Airlines told Aviation Direct: “Between September 30, 2019 and September 30, 2020, around 430 colleagues left us. These are mainly employee layoffs; in individual cases, fixed-term contracts were not extended, but not, as mentioned, “on a large scale”. As emphasized, until the end of short-time work there will be no company-related redundancies that lead to job cuts - this is not provided for in the context of short-time work.

Austrian Airlines sharply rejects the allegations by flight attendants that layoffs were handed out on a “grand scale”. Around 500 people are rumored, but company spokeswoman Tanja Gruber says: "I can reject the rumors about employer dismissals during short-time work, as can the number mentioned".
