Shortly after it became known that the world's only Antonov An-225 was destroyed in Hostomel during the first days of the war, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced that a new Mriya would be built. The project will be quite expensive.

The project is currently estimated to cost around $800 million. How the funds can be raised is unclear. According to the Interfax Ukraina agency, it is less about money and more about prestige. The planned transport plane should be dedicated to those pilots who fell in the battle for Mariupol.

The destruction of the world's only An-225 could also have been of a strategic nature, because in Ukraine the aircraft was considered a national pride. The Mriya was irreparably damaged by Russian attacks. Whether Ukraine is able to realize a new building, the future will show.
