Oneworld member American Airlines has blessed aircraft manufacturers Airbus, Boeing and Embraer with larger orders. In total, the carrier, which is one of the largest in the world, will purchase around 260 brand-new machines.

The Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has placed a firm order for 90 E175 regional jets. These are intended to serve both the expansion and modernization of the regional fleet. American Airlines has ordered 85 B737-Max-10s from Boeing and 85 A321neos will be purchased from Airbus. At the same time, options for up to 193 additional aircraft have been secured from all three manufacturers.

The Boeing 737 Max 10 order is receiving particular attention in the United States as the Max program is currently under particular pressure. Furthermore, the Max-10 has not yet been certified and is several years behind the original schedule. It is currently completely unclear when the FAA will grant type certification to this variant. Boeing is correspondingly pleased, because its CEO says that they “very much appreciate American Airlines’ trust in Boeing (…).”

The Oneworld member also announced that its existing A319 and A320 aircraft will get new cabins. First Class will have more seats in the future. This is said to be at the expense of capacity in economy class. Furthermore, power sockets should be available for passengers in all transport classes. You also want to build in larger overhead bins. The conversions are to be carried out from 2025.
