The Austrian aviation supplier FACC AG delivered a complete entrance area for the A320 airspace cabin for the first time. After an intensive development phase, the first series components were now delivered to Airbus in Hamburg. Immediately after the first delivery, FACC starts ramping up series production.

“Airbus relies on FACC for the interior fittings of its A320 models. We have been working closely together in partnership for many years. I am very pleased that we are now close to series production with the first delivery of this new product group for FACC ”, says Robert Machtlinger, CEO of FACC AG. The development work was carried out on a tight schedule and was very complex due to the objective of an optimal technical connection to the existing cabin infrastructure.

The completely redesigned entrance area of the A320 family has a very high quality finish, has a noble design and makes important contributions to consistent weight optimization through the use of innovative fiber composite materials. The interior system includes the entire cladding of the entrance area and the door area in the front, middle and rear of the aircraft. Thanks to the ingenious integration of the light system newly introduced by Airbus in the Airspace cabin, also known as the “Hero Light”, a completely new and friendly interior atmosphere is created for the passengers - from the entrance area through the main cabin to the rear service area the aircraft cabin.

The entrance area is the first component that the passenger sees when boarding. The high-quality design of the components optimally implements the unique aesthetics chosen by Airbus and the high feel-good atmosphere of the new Airspace cabin, thus ensuring a convincing first impression. What remains hidden from the passenger when looking from the outside: Thanks to an intelligent, innovative connection concept, the maintenance times for the aircraft technicians can be kept very short, which in turn further increases the competitiveness of the aircraft. “With the new concept, we enable a significant reduction in customer service costs. In addition, we have geared the component design of the entrance area to a large number of pieces and modern production processes. The Airbus and FACC teams worked together perfectly throughout the entire development phase, ”says Andreas Furthmayr, Vice President Cabin Interiors of FACC AG, summarizing the joint development work. The first shipset with Airspace entrance area and Hero Light was delivered to Airbus in Hamburg and there, accompanied by FACC, built into a series aircraft. This is followed by the ramp-up of series production. The scope of the project ranges from the conception through the entire procurement to production and the associated logistics.
