The Vietnamese airline Bamboo Airlines is withdrawing from the long-haul business. As a result, operations of the Boeing 787-9 fleet will be ended. They want to focus on domestic traffic in the future.
The decision to realign the business model also has an impact on Germany, as the connections to Frankfurt am Main will be canceled. Furthermore, personnel stationed abroad, for example in Australia, are being reduced. The corresponding letters of termination have already been handed out.
Originally, Bamboo Airways' Dreamliner fleet consisted of three units. One of the leased aircraft was returned to AerCap at the beginning of October 2023. The other two will soon be returned to Calc.
Bamboo Airways wants to fly primarily within Vietnam in the future. Occasionally, international routes that can be reached with the Airbus A320 family fleet or Embraer 190 will also be offered. The realignment is not purely a coincidence, as it is rumored that the carrier has made significant losses on long-haul flights. The company did not provide exact figures, but the speed of withdrawal from this segment is certainly surprising.
