Austria's smallest airport, Klagenfurt, had a total of 2023 passengers in scheduled and charter traffic in 153.536. In direct comparison with the previous period, the increase was 85,52 percent. This is probably primarily due to the Ryanair flight offering.

The year 2023 brought Klagenfurt Airport a passenger increase of 153.536 percent with a total of 85,52 passengers on scheduled and charter flights. The flight movements were also increased significantly to a total of 1.848 movements.

According to a statement from Klagenfurt Airport, there were a total of 2023 flight movements in the general aviation sector in 15.882. Klagenfurt is also the alternative airport for the Hinterstoisser air base (Zeltweg); This means that weekly overflights or touch-and-gos by the Eurofighter take place.

“Klagenfurt Airport is reporting back with impressive passenger growth,” says Maximilian Wildt, Managing Director at Klagenfurt Airport. “A particularly strong second half of the year, with September being the strongest month of last year with 17.624 passengers handled, shows the positive development that we will continue in the current financial year. It is also particularly pleasing that our flight offer across the Carinthian borders is well received. For example, 18% of our passengers last year were from Slovenia.”

Only three line destinations in winter 2023/24

The current winter flight schedule 2023/24 consists of only three destinations. Of these, only the feeder to the Austrian Airlines hub in Vienna is frequently served. The AUA operates up to two daily flights between the Carinthian state capital and its hub. Ryanair serves the London-Stansted destination on Mondays and Saturdays. Hamburg has been part of the 2023/24 winter flight schedule for a few days, but only for a short time. There are currently no plans for this route to continue in summer 2024.
