Since Saturday, January 13, 2024, there has been a non-stop connection between Hamburg and Klagenfurt again. However, this will only be served by Austrian Airlines for a few weeks, as the last flight on this route is planned for March 2, 2024.

“Right at the beginning of the year we can present our passengers with a new direct connection, which makes me very happy. In the next few days and weeks, many northern Germans will be setting off on a skiing holiday again. “With Klagenfurt in Austria, Austrian Airlines is making a popular winter sports region accessible non-stop again at popular times,” says Dirk Behrens, Head of Aviation at Hamburg Airport.

Various airlines have tried this route in the past. Many years ago, Klagenfurt Airport even chartered a Boeing 757 from Condor, which was used to serve the destinations Berlin-Tegel and Hamburg. However, the flight offers did not last long. The current Austrian Airlines flights are also likely to be a test run, as a similar offer has been launched between Innsbruck and Berlin in the 2022/23 winter flight schedule. This season this then led to a winter route operated by sister company Eurowings.

“The introduction of a direct flight connection from Klagenfurt to Hamburg in our route network represents significant progress for our guests. Both German and Austrian travelers can benefit from these flights, whether for exploring the city of Hamburg or for a holiday in the Carinthian mountains . We are pleased to expand our route network with this attractive connection and to offer our guests an even broader travel experience,” emphasizes Michael Trestl, CCO of Austrian Airlines.

The Hamburg-Klagenfurt route has been operated by AUA since January 13, 2024. Flights will take place on Saturdays up to and including March 2, 2024. A final decision has not yet been made about a possible continuation or a new edition in the 2024/25 winter flight schedule. The capacity utilization that can be achieved in the next few days and weeks is likely to play a significant role.
