KM Malta Airlines probably imagined the first flight from Berlin to Luqa differently, because a male unruly PAX thought he had to urinate in the aircraft cabin. The German was arrested at the Maltese airport and sentenced to three months' probation by an examining judge.
According to official information, the 49-year-old passenger was drunk. After he ignored the seat belt signs and tried to make his way to the toilet, the cabin crew urgently warned him that he should wait for safety reasons. But the German didn't want to accept that and is said to have become extremely aggressive.
A compromise had to be made: The crew agreed to let him sit on another seat near the toilet in order to have “pole position” to the toilet as soon as the captain turned off the seat belt signs. But even that took too long for the man and out of sheer anger he blatantly urinated on the floor.
The crew requested executive intervention via air traffic control. The Maltese police entered the plane shortly after landing and took the troublemaker away. On the order of the public prosecutor, he was temporarily arrested and brought before an examining judge. Unruly PAX admitted his wrongdoing and accepted a suspended prison sentence of three months. The judge warned him strongly that if he continued to misbehave, he would have to serve a prison sentence and then not have to go on holiday, but rather spend a prison sentence in Malta.
The incident in question occurred on March 31, 2024 on KM Malta Airlines flight KM 377 on the Berlin-Luqa route. It was the new state carrier's first flight on this route. This was carried out with the Airbus A320neo, which has the registration 9H-NED. According to KM Malta Airlines, extensive cleaning work was carried out following the “peeing incident”. These should be billed to the troublemaker. They did not yet want to answer whether the “unruly PAX” would be subject to a flight ban. If that happens, he would be the “first guest” on the no-fly list.
