Munich Airport had a total of 2023 million passengers in the first nine months of 27,9. This meant an increase of 20 percent or 4,7 million passengers compared to the same period last year.
Particularly in the busy summer months of July, August and September, the number of passengers reached 11,3 percent of the pre-crisis level with 81 million passengers. In the last two weeks of September - during Oktoberfest - more than 910.000 passengers used Munich Airport. On September 22nd, a new daily record for this year was set with 136.863 passengers.
In September 2023, 79 airlines regularly offered non-stop flights from Munich Airport to 204 destinations in 60 countries. Of these, 15 destinations are within Germany. 142 destinations are located in 36 European countries. A total of 23 destinations are offered in 47 countries outside Europe.
The number of takeoffs and landings at Munich Airport increased to 2023 flight movements from January to September 227.000. This is an increase of seven percent compared to the same period last year. The aircraft utilization rate has once again reached a record level: while the aircraft were occupied at an average of 77 percent in the first nine months of last year, this year it was almost 82 percent at Bavaria's air traffic hub. In the third quarter, a new absolute high of 86 percent was achieved.
The cargo area at Munich Airport also increased: the total amount of air freight and air mail handled in the first three quarters of the year is 209.000 tons - four percent more than in 2022.
