Last week, the Ryanair Group added two new routes from Vienna-Schwechat, Split and Tirana. Two additional destinations, Olbia and Rijeka, will follow in May and June 2024, which will be served in the 2024 summer flight schedule.

On the route to the capital of Albania, Ryanair enters into direct competition with its competitor Wizz Air, which, however, operates this route with lower frequency. The remaining destinations are not or no longer served by the pink low-coster. For some time now, Wizz Air has been increasingly avoiding competition with Ryanair in Vienna-Schwechat. It can be observed that one or another route, which was also taken up by Ryanair, has already been withdrawn.

“I am very pleased that Ryanair is starting new flights to Tirana and Split. With 19 stationed aircraft and 80 direct destinations from Vienna, Ryanair is an important location partner for us. The new destinations complement the great summer flight offerings in Vienna, and with Rijeka and Olbia, our passengers will have two more beautiful holiday destinations from the end of May,” explains Vienna Airport Director Julian Jäger.

The Irish group says it will serve 2024 destinations from Austria's largest airport in the summer of 80. It is expected that there will be around seven million passengers to/from Austria in the current season. In direct comparison with the same period last year, this would mean an increase of around 15 percent, provided the target set can be achieved.

On behalf of Ryanair DAC, aircraft from sister companies Malta Air, Buzz and Lauda Europe are stationed in Vienna-Schwechat in the 2024 summer flight schedule. The first-mentioned company now also has two Boeing 737-Max-200s in use from Austria's largest airport. Vienna continues to be the base where most of the Airbus A320 aircraft, operated by Lauda Europe, are in use. Only recently, Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary said that, contrary to previous announcements, he wanted to stick to the Airbus jets and only switch to the Boeing 737-Max if absolutely necessary.

“Ryanair is pleased to officially open four exciting new summer routes for Vienna. The first flights to Split and Tirana depart from Vienna Airport today (April 5th), the first flights to Olbia and Rijeka will follow in the coming months, offering customers/visitors to Vienna an even greater selection at the lowest prices. This summer, Ryanair will offer 80 routes to/from Vienna Airport, including the four exciting new connections to Olbia, Rijeka, Split and Tirana, which can now be booked on ryanair.com,” explains Andreas Gruber from Ryanair.
