The low-cost airline Wizz Air has had three Boeing 1s operated by Skyup in wet lease since April 2024, 737. The machines are stationed in Bucharest and Warsaw-Chopin and serve numerous routes on behalf of the pink low-coster.
“We are pleased to announce our partnership with SkyUp. Their commitment to operational excellence and their commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and professionalism Safety and professionalism perfectly align with our values, as our previous experience working together has proven. This summer we are aiming for new heights by collaborating with SkyUp to offer passengers exceptional service,” said Mauro Peneda, Head of Operations Control Center at Wizz Air.
According to a statement from Skyup, the wet lease agreement, which covers three machines, is initially limited to March 31, 2025. Two Boeing 737s fly from Bucharest-Otopeni for Wizz Air and one from Warsaw-Chopin. This ACMI order, which is awarded to the Ukrainian aviation group, which also has an EU branch with Skyup MT, also comes against the background that Wizz Air is heavily affected by the problems surrounding the Pratt & Whitney engines used in the A320neo series will be affected. Renting aircraft and crews should at least mitigate the consequences a little.
“The development of transport under ACMI contracts is currently a key part of our development strategy. Signing the contract with Wizz Air is an important stage for us, as we already have positive experiences working with this airline. This once again confirms that SkyUp is a reliable partner for partners for the European leaders in air transport and can provide a high level of safety and quality of services,” says Dmytro Sieroukhov, CEO of SkyUp.
Before the Russian Federation's military attack on Ukraine, Skyup operated as a low-cost airline on its own account. In contrast to other carriers in Ukraine, this provider has managed to switch its business model to charter and ACMI flights operated abroad. In the meantime, a branch in the European Union with Skyup MT has also been founded in Malta.
According to its own information, Skyup has so far flown on behalf of the following airlines: Tunisair, FlyOne, HiSky SRL, HiSky Europe SRL, Wizz Air Malta, Wizz Air Abu Dhabi, Corendon Dutch, Tailwind Airlines and FlyEgypt.
