In view of the renewed increase in holiday demand, the travel group is returning part of the credit lines from the state rescue package from the Corona crisis, as announced.
The travel group announced that the funds made available by the federal government and private banks would be reduced by around 1 million euros as of April 700st. "In the past few weeks we have not used the state credit lines," said Tui boss Fritz Joussen. The government credit lines granted would only have acted as a safety buffer during the corona pandemic and the lockdown caused by the pandemic. After the partial return of the credit lines, the group, including the remaining credit lines, still has cash and cash equivalents of EUR 3,4 billion.
Joussen now sees the group on the way back to normality after the pandemic and the government travel restrictions imposed as a result largely deprived the tourism companies of their business basis two years ago. "People want to travel, we see the demand in the bookings and expect a good summer 22 at Tui," said the manager. Tui expects the upcoming travel summer to almost reach the normalized level from the pre-Corona year 2019. Most recently, bookings were said to be 80 percent of the level of summer 2019.
