The German flight attendant union UFO is unequivocally calling for more money for Lufthansa's cabin staff. A package of demands has been presented which, in addition to a one-off payment of 3.000 euros, also includes wage increases of up to 15 percent.

“Following the exceptionally successful return of aviation, particularly in the passenger business, as well as Lufthansa’s recently reported record sales, we see it as absolutely appropriate to demand this remuneration increase for our colleagues. Now it is time for the cabin, which has made a significant contribution to this success and which bears the burden of catastrophic personnel planning, to also participate financially,” said Joachim Vázquez Bürger, collective bargaining officer at UFO

Other points in the package of demands include an increase in a holiday pay surcharge and the so-called foreign language allowances, both of which have not been increased for decades, as well as an education grant of 500 euros for UFO members. The union is of the opinion that “necessary further training measures should now be carried out during working hours – and no longer, as was previously the case, in free time”.

“Since 2019, despite an increase in remuneration last year, we have overwhelmingly had to accept losses in real wages. Not least due to the immense savings that were made to save companies in the wake of the Corona pandemic and some of which continue to have an impact today. With persistently high inflation,” said Harry Jaeger, UFO negotiator and tariff expert at UFO.

“We have overcome the crisis together with great effort and now it is time to share in the immense success together through real wage increases. We hope that Lufthansa also understands this, because our colleagues will rightly not accept anything else,” concluded Jaeger. UFO and Lufthansa concluded the current collective wage agreement in November 2022. This ends on December 31.12.2023, XNUMX.
