The Ryanair Group has signed a contract with the Austrian oil company OMV for the delivery of 500 tons of SAF. According to the company's own information, around 1.250 tons of carbon dioxide can be saved.

“We are building a growth business in sustainable aviation fuel to support the industry on its path to a more sustainable future. We are proud of our partnership with Ryanair, allowing both companies to leverage their expertise in promoting the use of SAF. This facilitates the transition to the use of more sustainable forms of energy and helps reduce the climate impact of aviation,” explains Martijn van Koten, OMV Executive Vice President Fuels & Feedstock.

Last year, OMV and Ryanair concluded a framework agreement for the purchase of up to 160.000 tons of SAF by 2030. OMV also implements numerous measures to achieve its ambitious strategic sustainability goals, to which SAF makes a significant contribution. OMV aims to become the regional market leader in the provision of SAF.

“SAF plays a key role in our Pathway to Net Zero decarbonization strategy, in which we are committed to increasing our use of SAF in the coming years – a commitment that is further advanced by this agreement with OMV. OMV is an important partner for Ryanair in Austria, Germany and Romania, and we look forward to further expanding this partnership as Europe’s largest airline group,” said Steven Fitzgerald, Ryanair’s Head of Sustainability.
