The 2023 financial year was successful for the low-cost airline Volotea, as the carrier was able to increase sales by 24,6 percent to 694 million euros compared to the previous period. The pre-crisis value has even been exceeded by 57 percent.

While the Spanish low-coster had to report a negative Ebitda of 2022 million euros in the 44 financial year, this figure was plus 96 million euros in the most recent period. This enabled them to improve significantly and, according to their own statements, they are profitable again. At the same time, the route network was expanded and new bases were opened, Volotea said.

As of April 2024, the fleet consists of a total of 42 machines. The company that was once Europe's last Boeing 717 operator, currently relies on the Airbus A319 and A320. The distribution between the two models is largely balanced. According to the company, the route network consists of 410 routes. In 2023, Volotea had a total of 10,4 million passengers on board.

For the current year 2024, the carrier is targeting around 12 million travelers. In addition, capacity has been expanded by around 15 percent compared to the previous year. They also want to achieve this by opening new bases in Bari and Brest. The management is targeting sales of 800 million euros.

According to Volotea, they have also started repaying the state-guaranteed Corona loans. Spain granted the low-cost airline a loan of 350 million euros. These must be repaid plus standard bank interest by 2029. The company did not disclose how much of this debt it has already paid off. The management is still thinking about a possible listing on the stock exchange, but this is a project that has been postponed for many years but has not yet been implemented.
