Since September 4, 2023, the Westbahn has operated more frequently between Vienna and Innsbruck. They now offer five daily course pairs. Around 5.000 seats are available daily in each direction. The latest timetable adjustment corresponds to company information after an increase of 20 percent.

On the way from Vienna-Westbahnhof you first travel on the "main route" to Salzburg. Some trains then continue to Munich main station and others via Kufstein and Wörgl to Innsbruck main station. The railway company is planning from December 2023 also offer trips to Bregenz.

"The aim of the Westbahn was to raise the western axis to a new level of quality by establishing a connection between Vienna and Innsbruck. We are all the more pleased that our offer has been so well received and that more and more customers are putting their trust in our double-decker low-floor sets. The high demand makes it possible to successively advance our connections to the west," explains Managing Director Thomas Posch, who has identified high demand on the Tyrol route.

In addition to the departures at 7:08 a.m., 8:08 a.m., 11:08 a.m. and 17:08 p.m., there is another afternoon connection from Wien Westbahnhof to Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof with departure at 15:08 p.m. and arrival at 19:29 p.m. From Innsbruck towards Vienna, the departures at 6:31 a.m., 12:31 p.m., 14:31 p.m. and 16:31 p.m. are supplemented by an additional train in the morning with departure at 05:26 a.m. and arrival at 09:52 a.m.

“The Westbahn is on course for expansion. The increasing demand proves that a high-quality and reliable rail service is important for Austrians and can make an essential contribution to climate-friendly mobility. We will therefore continue to expand in the coming months," says co-managing director Florian Kazalek.

In addition to tickets, which are sold at house rates via the Internet, tobacconists and on the train, the Westbahn also recognizes tickets from the transport associations. For a few weeks you are a member of the VOR again, which one had left some years ago. The Austrian climate ticket and the regional variants are also valid on Westbahn trains.

The West is more reliable, more punctual, with a working reservation system.

In principle correct, but West doesn't have to wait for any connecting trains and doesn't accept any third-party trains from abroad.
