Austrian Airlines has closed the crew base for flight attendants and pilots at Innsbruck Airport. A total of 40 employees are directly affected. These are now resisting the relocation of the place of employment to Vienna and are receiving support from the Tyrolean ÖGB, among others. Regional politics also get involved in the discussion.

For its part, the AUA did everything necessary, even offering those affected to move to Vienna, like the one ORF reported. This is nothing more than an immoral offer, because it is ultimately about livelihoods and families, said ÖGB chairman Philip Wohlgemuth. The Tyrolean employee representatives express sharp criticism, which the works council also supports. "Two labor court proceedings are still ongoing because of the relocation of the employees from Innsbruck to Vienna," explains Andreas Geldner, the airline's deputy chairman of the on-board works council. Because of this, the employees would feel abandoned.

Now it is time for the federal government to act. In politics, the employees receive support from the Tyrolean governor. He criticized the harsh approach and expressed confidence in the management: "The renewed withdrawal of employees from Innsbruck to Vienna shows that the current AUA management is not a reliable partner," said Günther Platter. It is high time to offer fair solutions for these jobs. That is why the trade union federation calls for a social plan that also takes into account the life situations of the employees.
