Austrian Airlines announced a record result on Thursday. The Vida trade union is also concerned about this, because the employee representatives are demanding that the carrier, in view of the financial success, should immediately reverse the wage cuts.

The enormous commitment of the employees, but also the reduced salaries, made a massive contribution to the fact that Austrian Airlines was able to announce its best quarterly results ever. It was also possible to achieve that the state-secured loan can be repaid early.

"Under these changed conditions, the savings package for the employees must also be ended immediately," demands Daniel Liebhart, chairman of vida's aviation department. "I call something like this foul play on the part of the AUA management during the special collective agreement negotiations to compensate for inflation, since not a word was heard about the developments that became known today," Liebhart is outraged. At an employee event (“RedHour”), the management presented the situation in such a way that the savings package demanded for employees in connection with the pandemic and state aid could not be dissolved because the state loan was still running.

"The positive business development had obviously been known for some time, as it had already been planned with an advertising campaign in the media - but this information was withheld during the KV negotiations," the trade unionist continued. But the savings package at Austrian was a joint effort to secure the company in the long term. "Since the situation has taken a turn for the better for the company, the savings package for the employees is no longer justifiable and must be withdrawn immediately - we will now push for this in negotiations," emphasized Liebhart. Finally, the productivity of employees has risen to a new record level.

"The company is spreading jubilant reports about the business figures in expensive advertising campaigns and the employees are still supposed to be carrying a savings package - that can't be," says Liebhart, who also announced that Vida will be asking the opinion of its union members in the onboard area from tomorrow, in order to be able to approach the AUA management in a stronger manner on this point, among other things.
