Berlin: Two Lockheed Martin F-35 had to make an emergency landing

Two US Air Force Lockheed Martin F-35s had to make an emergency landing at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport on Saturday morning. The machines had started at Spangdahlem Airbase. The two fighter jets were actually supposed to control the airspace over Poland, but had to declare an air emergency on the return flight.

According to current information, only one of the two F-35s was affected. The second machine followed - a usual procedure in such military movements. Damage caused by a confrontation with a Russian machine or a missile can currently be ruled out with a very high degree of probability. Military circles have heard that there was a technical problem and that the pilot therefore decided to land at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport for safety reasons.

The machine type F-35 has been conspicuous for a long time with recurring problems of various kinds. It is therefore not uncommon for this pattern to have to make an unscheduled landing. However, due to the war in Ukraine, such a military emergency landing receives significantly more attention than usual. It is therefore not surprising that the German Federal Police has hermetically sealed off the two fighter jets at BER.

Civil service was briefly interrupted. In concrete terms, this means that the start of machines was delayed and aircraft that were in the air had to go to holding. This procedure is also common for safety and emergency landings of civil aircraft.
