The passenger who threatened to carry an alleged bomb in his briefcase on a flight from Helsinki to Vienna in November 2019 was fined by Västra Nyland District Court. Furthermore, he must compensate both the other travelers and the airline.

At the time of the incident, the man is said to have been intoxicated and threatened the flight attendants with an alleged bomb in his hand luggage. The captain was informed immediately and contacted Austrian air traffic control. Since the process was not discreet, but extremely noisy, panic broke out on board the Finnair flight.

The incident continued after landing in Vienna-Schwechat, because the drunk man threatened to detonate his supposed bomb. The executive cracked down and fortunately couldn't find anything. In Finland, he received a comparatively extremely light sentence, because the court in Västra Nyland sentenced him to a fine of 60 daily rates.

The passengers were awarded 80 euros per person in compensation. The unruly PAX has to pay compensation of 2.000 euros to the airline Finnair. In total, the man has to pay about 4.300 euros for his action. In comparison, he got off very cheaply, because in comparable cases in other countries very long prison sentences were sometimes imposed.

Incidentally, the man was not insightful in court. He completely denied the incident and also considered the compensation awarded to passengers and the airline to be too high. He only admitted that he was very drunk.
