Both the Cockpit Association and the flight attendant union UFO are calling on their members flying with Discover Airlines to stop work on Friday, January 26, 2024. Flight operations will be significantly affected as a result.

“Our colleagues at Discover have now shown a lot of patience, but unfortunately they have to realize that the new year will continue as the old one ended: we are being held back endlessly. Unfortunately, the management is driving us into the ultima ratio scenario of industrial action, although we would have wished it to be different in the interests of both the passengers and the employees. Our hope now rests on the company - the sooner the employer shows a serious willingness to reach an agreement, the sooner we can put the collective bargaining dispute back where it belongs - at the collective bargaining table," says Marcel Gröls, chairman of collective bargaining policy at the VC.

The two unions are calling on their members to stop work from Friday, January 26, 2024, 00:01 a.m. to 23:59 p.m. Negotiations regarding possible collective agreements, which currently do not exist at Discover Airlines, have stalled. Both UFO and the VC accuse: “The management of EW Discover GmbH is blocking standard collective agreements both in the cockpit and in the cabin and is delaying or even refusing to negotiate altogether.”

“For a good two years we have been trying persistently in various ways to enter into collective bargaining with the employer for the cabin crew, but we have consistently been rebuffed. At the same time, Discover presents itself as a hip start-up that believes that employees accept far below-average working conditions and inadequate pay simply because of a great spirit. The fact is, the Discover cabin does a fantastic job, but it can barely pay the rent. On top of that, reasonably reliable life planning is practically impossible under the prevailing working conditions. This has to end. You finally need sufficient and predictable free time as well as a salary that you can actually live on,” adds Harry Jaeger, head of collective bargaining policy at UFO.

The affected Lufthansa subsidiary recommends its passengers as follows: “The two unions VC and UFO have called for a strike at Discover Airlines on January 26.01.24, 00 between 01:23 a.m. and 59:XNUMX p.m. All departures from Frankfurt and Munich operated by Discover Airlines on short, medium and long-haul routes are affected. We are working to keep the impact on our guests as low as possible. Please check your current flight status regularly and include your contact details in your booking.
