Hamburg Airport and a group of aircraft noise opponents obviously do not agree on how many take-offs and landings took place after 2023 p.m. in July 23. The association of citizens' initiatives and associations for aircraft noise, climate and environmental protection speaks of 00 pieces. The airport denies that.

A company spokeswoman informed Hamburg Airport that in July 2023 there were only 166 take-offs or landings outside of the operating hours, which end at 23:00 p.m. However, the origin of the data from BIG is interesting, because according to its own statements, it uses information from the German Aircraft Noise Service.

At least in relation to Hamburg Airport, these do not seem to match the airport's records. Irrespective of this, the citizens' initiative criticizes the fact that there has been a sharp increase in take-offs and landings after 23 p.m. this year. In Hamburg there is a night flight ban from this time up to and including 00:6 a.m. However, airlines can also request take-offs or landings up to midnight if there are unavoidable reasons.

They are said to have made active use of this in the first half of 2023 and the citizens' initiative is said to have given the permits rather laxly. According to their data source, there were 568 take-offs or landings after 23:00 p.m. this year. On the other hand, there were “only” 2019 pieces in the first half of 487.

According to Hamburg Airport, increased storms this year, during which apron handling had to be temporarily suspended to protect passengers and workers, played a decisive role in the increase. However, that is not the only reason, because many delays are also caused by the local airlines themselves, because tightly timed flight schedules often make it difficult to catch up during the day.
