The Chinese airline Hainan Airlines will reconnect Vienna-Schwechat Airport with Shenzhen from May 29, 2024. The route has been paused since February 2020 because due to the corona pandemic, service has been suspended until further notice.

From May 29, 2024, Hainan Airlines will again fly twice a week from Shenzhen to Vienna-Schwechat. According to a statement from the Austrian airport, this route will again be served all year round. The Chinese aviation company last had the route, which has now been announced for resumption, in its program in February 2020.

At the start of the corona pandemic, Hainan Airlines temporarily suspended this flight connection. The aviation company announced its reactivation comparatively late. Initially, two rounds will be served per week. Depending on how demand develops, an increase may be possible at a later date.

“With Hainan Airlines, one of the most important airlines from China is coming back to Vienna. After a four-year break, it is once again possible to take off directly to the metropolis of Shenzhen. The Far East is an important market for Vienna Airport and the return of Hainan Airlines is a positive sign of the resurgence of tourism and business in Austria and China. We are very pleased to be able to continue the good cooperation with Hainan Airlines,” explains Julian Jäger, CEO of Flughafen Wien AG.

Hainan Airlines will fly twice a week (Wed, Sat) between Vienna and Shenzhen from May 29, 2024. Departure from Shenzhen takes place at 02:05 a.m., with arrival in Vienna at 07:55 a.m. The return flight from Vienna departs at 11:05 a.m. and arrives in Shenzhen at 04:00 a.m. the following day.

Shenzhen is a modern metropolis in southern China and is known for its rapid economic development. Numerous top companies have set up headquarters in Shenzhen, such as Siemens, Huawei, Microsoft, Philips, IBM, Samsung, Panasonic and more, strengthening the city's role as a leading technology center. As one of China's first special economic zones, Shenzhen has developed from a small port city into a vibrant megacity with around 17 million inhabitants, impressive skyscrapers, innovative start-ups and a dynamic cultural life.
