The travel group Tui is starting the summer season with six rotations from Innsbruck. The first charter flight was already carried out on June 4, 2021 with the destination Heraklion. According to the tour operator, the number of bookings has increased since the German government announced that travel restrictions were being relaxed.
In addition to Crete, Rhodes, Kos, Mallorca and now also Calabria are on offer this year. On Saturdays, Eurowings Europe flies from Innsbruck to Palma de Mallroca on behalf of TUI. “Right after the travel restrictions were relaxed, bookings rose sharply. Our first flights to Crete at the beginning of June were fully booked within a few days, ”said Gottfried Math, Managing Director of Tui Austria.
Crete is to be served twice a week, while a weekly charter circuit is planned for Kos and Rhodes. Calabria and Mallorca are each approached once a week with aircraft from Eurowings Europe. “Passengers who book a flight from Innsbruck particularly enjoy the short distances and waiting times. A relaxed start to the holiday but also a long-lasting holiday feeling, especially when coming home, are guaranteed. These are pluses that are priceless, ”says airport director Marco Pernetta.
Tui and Innsbruck Airport are looking to the next few months with optimism. “The progress made in vaccination and improved test options lay the foundation for safe travel. We anticipate that there will be a strong catch-up effect, especially in the summer months, and that the planes on many routes will quickly be booked out during the summer holidays, ”says Gottfried Math.
Deputy Airport Director Patrick Dierich affirmed: “Everyone longs for vacation and a break after a year that has been very challenging for everyone. As an airport, we are very pleased to be able to offer our passengers again convenient direct flights to the most beautiful Mediterranean destinations. With a wide range of offers in Greece, Italy and Spain, no holiday wishes remain unfulfilled.
