The Boeing 757 operated by DHL Air UK with the registration G-DHKZ lost parts and possibly also cargo on Saturday morning shortly after take-off from Leipzig / Halle. According to a spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation, there were problems with a cargo door. The machine turned back and landed safely.
DHL maintains a hub in Leipzig, so that machines from the Deutsche Post subsidiary can almost always be found there. However, the start of the G-DHKZ was different than usual, because a cargo door opened in the air for an as yet unexplained cause. According to the BFU, there are currently no indications that cargo has been lost. But you don't know for sure yet.
DHL flight QY126 was supposed to go to Frankfurt am Main. Because of the incident, the pilots decided to return to Leipzig / Halle. The Boeing 757 landed about 20 minutes after take-off. The BFU classified the incident as a "serious incident" and has already initiated an accident investigation. This will then also determine how it could happen that the cargo door could open during the flight.
The G-DHKZ was formally deployed on European Air Transport Leipzig flight QY126. However, the operator of the Boeing 757 is not EAT itself, but DHL Air UK. At the time of the incident, the freighter was 28,8 years old.
