Mönchengladbach Airport appoints a new managing director, Andreas Ungar. This will become Franz Josef Kames, who retired at the end of March 2021. Ungar is expected to take up his post on January 1, 2022, thus completing the management level.

Thus, the management of the airport will in future consist of Managing Director Ulrich Schückhaus, Authorized Signatory David Bongartz and Managing Director Andreas Ungar. The service contract with the last named manager was signed on Friday.

"Mönchengladbach Airport is gaining an experienced manager and proven airport expert who will further advance the airport as a driver of innovation and growth for Mönchengladbach," said Mayor and MGL Supervisory Board Chairman Felix Heinrichs about the new personnel.

The man in his mid-thirties was previously operations manager and managing director of the security services at Münster / Osnabrück Airport and also worked for many years as technical manager, traffic manager and authorized signatory in a responsible position at Rostock-Laage Airport. The trained aerospace technician also has a lot of experience in innovative topics such as emission-free flying, drones and flying taxis, which are currently playing a major role at the MGL with the SkyCab research project.

"I'm looking forward to the new, exciting task in Mönchengladbach," said Ungar. “With its proven business areas, the MGL airfield is well positioned as a training, maintenance and event location. At the same time, thanks to its excellent infrastructure and high flexibility, it has enormous potential to drive pioneering developments in aviation and to become even more attractive for general aviation.
