The German island airline OFD is launching a non-stop connection between the Uetersen airfield near Hamburg and Helgoland. This will be served six times a week from April 1, 2022.

On the traffic days Monday to Wednesday, OFD aircraft will operate twice a day between the two airfields. The standard ticket costs 169 euros one way. Bookings cannot currently be made online, but can be made by telephone and email with the airline.

Historically, OLT has played a very interesting role in aviation, because today's Lufthansa CItyline emerged from this company. In 1974, the regional flight division was spun off into DLT. The company was completely taken over by Lufthansa in several steps by 1993 and was given the name Cityline in 1994.

Shortly after German reunification, OLT re-entered the regional flight business on its own account. From 1991, charter flights for football clubs were also carried out and until 2011 the contract was awarded for Airbus company traffic between Hamburg-Finkenwerder and Toulouse. After losing the order, the regional flights division was separated again and sold to the Polish company Amber Gold. However, the OLT Express was not in the air for very long, because after another sale and the takeover of the business operations of Contact Air, bankruptcy followed. The island flights area, which has been using the OFD brand name ever since, was not affected by this. This remains with the original owners and developed completely independently. Some machines still carry the old OLT logo because they have never been repainted.

The OFD fleet currently consists of five Britten Norman Islanders, which can carry eight passengers and the pilot, and one GA 8 Airvan, which can carry five passengers and the pilot.
