A rail replacement service has been running on the Munich-Franz Josef Strauss Airport area since January 15, 2024. The underground connection between Terminal 2 and the T2 satellite is affected.

According to Munich Airport, the reason why the passenger transport system cannot operate temporarily is that urgent maintenance work needs to be carried out. As a result, the underground train had to be taken out of service. According to the current planning status, the PTS will not go back into operation until February 25, 2024.

A replacement rail service with buses was set up. The airport expressly points out that this has a significantly longer travel time than the PTS. Passengers are requested to allow at least 20 minutes more time to switch between T2 and T2 satellite (and vice versa).

Travelers traveling from Terminal 2, which is mainly used by Lufthansa and other Star Alliance carriers, are affected. Gate areas J, K and L are located in the satellite terminal, which can normally be reached quickly using the passenger transport system. Travelers departing there will need to allow extra time. This also applies to transfer passengers who arrive in the satellite and continue flying from T2 (gate areas G and H). There is special signage in the terminal buildings indicating the shuttle bus stops.
