Print Friendly, PDF & Email

The longest passenger flight in the history of Deutsche Lufthansa. This event will take place in a few days. And would probably never have arisen without the Corona crisis.

In normal times, researchers travel to South Africa. But because of the new Corona variant, this option is ruled out. This is where the crane airline comes into play. And starts an unusual special flight: It goes 13.000 kilometers from Hamburg to the Falkland Islands. Nonstop. On February 1st it will be after Flight revue information for the Lufthansa A350 D-AIXN with the researchers from the Alfred Wegener Institute on board. The flight duration is set at over 15 flight hours. After landing at the British air force base RAF Mount Pleasant on the Falkland Islands, the research team continues with the ship to Antarctica. Preparations for the special flight have already started. All 18 crew members (four pilots, four technicians and ten flight attendants) and the accompanying scientists are already in quarantine.
