In cooperation with a Dutch technology provider, the German airport Weeze is testing facial recognition in the field of security fast lane. This should enable travelers to go through the boarding pass control faster.
A technical column equipped with cameras was installed for this purpose. This is initially a so-called pilot, i.e. a test operation to test the functions of the device and the acceptance of the customers. With the FastID app you can upload your ID data and portrait and have a digital identity on your mobile phone in just a few minutes. And there it stays: The data is not stored permanently anywhere.
If you have now purchased a ticket for the Fast Track on the airport's website, you simply load the QR code into the FastID app. Now the Fast Track can be entered without a printed ticket. The camera in the FastID column detects whether you have a ticket as you pass by and gives you a green signal to let you go.
FastID also offers innovative access controls for fast track and lounge access at Rotterdam Airport. The team around founder and CEO Albert van Veen is working hard to ensure that the digital, secure ID solutions can also be used in other areas at international airports or in large stadiums after the pilot phase.
